Privacy Policy for AshBike
Last Updated: September, 2025
This Privacy Policy describes how AshBike handles your personal information. At AshBike, we are committed to protecting your privacy and providing you with transparency and control over your data.
AshBike is designed to be a private and secure biking companion. We do not have servers, and we do not collect or store your personal data on any external servers. All of your ride data is stored exclusively on your device. You are in complete control of your information.
To provide you with the best experience, AshBike needs to access certain data on your device. Here is a comprehensive list of the data we access and why we need it:
To Track Your Rides: We use your device's GPS to track your location during a bike ride, including your route, distance, and speed. This information is saved on your device so you can view your ride history.
To Provide Weather Information: We send your current location (latitude and longitude) to a third-party weather service to fetch real-time weather conditions for your ride. (Only if requested)
To Find Nearby Places: To help you find cafes and other points of interest, we send your location to Yelp's API. (Only if requested)
Background Location Access: AshBike requires access to your location even when the app is in the background to ensure we can accurately track your entire ride without interruption.
Optional Integration: You have the option to connect AshBike to Google Health Connect. This is an optional feature that you must explicitly enable.
Data We Access: If you grant permission, we access your exercise data, including heart rate and calories burned, to provide a more comprehensive overview of your bike rides.
Data We Write: We can also write your completed bike ride data to Health Connect, allowing you to keep all your fitness information in one place.
Your Control: You can revoke these permissions at any time through the Google Health Connect settings on your device. We never access your health data without your explicit consent.
All of the data mentioned above is stored in a local database on your device. This includes your ride history, location data, and any health information you've allowed the app to access. This data does not leave your phone unless you choose to share it (for example, by syncing with Health Connect).
Since all your data is stored locally, you have full control over its deletion. You can delete your ride data from within the AshBike app at any time. To do so, please follow these steps:
Click on the list ride tab (center tab in the bottom tab bar)
Delete a single ride: On the ride card, click the red trash can icon on the right top corner
Delete all rides: On the top header click the black trash can icon with the three lines on the far right.
Alternatively, uninstalling the AshBike application will also delete all of its associated data from your device.
You can delete your health data by following the instructions on Google Health Connect.

As mentioned, we use the following third-party services to enhance your experience:
OpenWeatherMap (or a similar service): For weather data.
Yelp: For finding nearby points of interest.
These features are optional. Your location data is only sent to these services when you actively request weather information or search for cafes. If you do not use these features, your location data never leaves your phone.
The location data sent to these services is anonymous and is not linked to any of your personally identifiable information. Because this data is not tied to your identity, there is no personal data for you to delete from these services. We encourage you to review their privacy policies to understand how they handle anonymous Lat/Lng data (including yours).
AshBike is an open-source application. We believe in full transparency, and you are welcome to review our source code to verify our data handling practices:
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page.
